Under her direction, Office Depot has built an internationally
respected program that was recognized in
2004 with the Corporate Stewardship Award
for Large Businesses from the U.S. Chamber
of Commerce’s Business Civic Leadership
Center. Wong’s tenure includes creation
of the Office Depot National Backpack Program,
through which more than one million backpacks
containing basic schools supplies have been
donated to disadvantaged children since
2001.
In 2006, Office Depot was recognized
as Humanitarian of the Year by Community
Anti-Drug Coalitions of America. Office
Depot also has been acknowledged as a
“Hunger Hero” by America’s
Second Harvest, received the Light of
Hope Award from Gifts In Kind International
and was honored by for its corporate philanthropy
efforts by WorkLife Matters Magazine.
It has been named to the Companies That
Care Honor Roll by the Center for Companies
That Care for four consecutive years.
Wong is a frequent speaker to non-profit
organizations and business groups on the
topic of corporate citizenship and philanthropy.
Her recent presentations include the University
of Florida’s 2005 “Retailing
Smarter” Symposium, the Neighborhood
Networks 10th Anniversary Training Conference
(sponsored by the U.S. Department of Housing
and Urban Development’s Office of
Multifamily Housing Programs) and the
Florida Direct Marketing Association forum
on Corporate Community Involvement Marketing.
She serves on the Board of Directors
of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute
for a Competitive Workforce and the National
Advisory Board of the National Recovery
Fund of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Business
Civic Leadership Center. She also is a
member of the Board of Directors of the
Donors Forum of South Florida and a member
of the Economic Council of Palm Beach
County.
A recipient of the 2005 Corporate Award
from Susan B. Anthony Recovery Center
in Fort Lauderdale and the Lifetime Achievement
Award from the Soroptimist Club of Boca
Raton/Deerfield Beach in 2004, Wong also
has been honored with a Woman of the Year
Award from City of Hope’s Florida
National Office and the Outstanding Corporate
Sponsor Award from Dream Foundation.
Wong has been with Office Depot 13 years,
serving first as a store manager in Minnesota
and then as a district manager based in
Chicago, with responsibility for 17 stores
in the upper Midwest.
